At the place where I get my nails done, there is a fairly large statue of Buddha on a tabletop, next to some incense. Today, I watched some girls hang up Christmas decorations right above it. It looked really pretty.
But then, I started to think about it. Why are they hanging up the decorations? Were some of the workers Christians? Is it for the guests? True, there were no religious symbols in those decorations. Just some fake evergreen and some shiny glass ornaments.
I think decorations are a nice reminder of Christmas and what it really means. It's great that stores and manicure shops want to decorate. If not for themselves, than for their guests. But, it's too easy to get caught up in the shopping and the parties. How many of us see the decorations in a store, and it reminds us of the fun aspect of the season, but not the true meaning?
I resolve to let the decorations remind me of what Christmas really is - not the commercial aspect of it.
